I completed my Wool classing in Goulburn in 1976 as part of my HSC.<\/p>\n

Wool classing then, prior to objective measurements, was very much a hands and eyes appraisel.<\/p>\n

Mr Arthur Todkill, [Top makers] and Mr Kevin Coves, [Spinners] were the 2 men who were my Teachers.<\/p>\n

Having never seen Western wool until I commenced wool classing, I was drawn to what was described as a free combing best top makers wool.<\/p>\n

In the 50 years since it has been my observation that to have a Merino growing a free combing wool in a tableland environment, a blend of both top makers and spinners provide for a productive sheep that has best resistance to water damage and thereby flies.<\/p>\n

A wool that suits a tableland environment and is very appealing to buyers at Auction.<\/p>\n

We will display the auction results here so you can see that the different microns\/lines all placed very high on the price list for their to the point of micron category.<\/p>\n

The AWEX sheets show the approximate 1000 cents a kilo,[ greasy] variation \u00a0within a point of a micron with the result closing on a clean basis.<\/p>\n

Of the 5 lines displayed I see an issue with all the Boudjah lines.<\/p>\n

The June sale<\/strong><\/h3>\n

AWEX live feed report for all wool sold by all brokers for the week.<\/p>\n

The 18.0 line from the Ram Lambs shorn at 9 months was unskirted.<\/p>\n

The 18.4 line from the older winter lambing ewes at 28 NKT.<\/p>\n

The 19.6 line with a comfort factor of 98.7%<\/p>\n

Higher cents per kilo are more obvious with lower microns but as with all micron categories discounts very quickly apply.\u00a0 It is obvious that better style wools of a higher micron command a comparable premium.<\/p>\n

I encourage all wool growers to work with their wool broker to benchmark their wool sale results.<\/p>\n

Of particular interest was the 19.6 wool from the heavier cutting ewes, the price per kilo being comparable to the average price for the 18.0 and 18.4 categories.<\/p>\n

To receive the well above average price is encouragement to keep breeding the Boudjah wool with the focus on a free combing wool that displays LOCK STRUCTURE AND FIBRE ALIGNMENT.<\/p>\n

At a South Bukalong Sale, Murrays opening comments for that sale were,
\u201cprobably the best things about a South Bukalong Hereford are the traits you cannot see.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is the 21st year that Boudjah rams have been prepared for sale without shedding or supplementary feeding. Turnips grown at Doolondondale, Nimmitabel, has been the diet. <\/span><\/p>\n

Straw has never been used in Sale Pens. All Boudjah sheep have been Gudair vaccinated sine 2002. Also Brucellosis accredited. Performance was monitored initially at Wether Trials and currently in the Sire Evaluation at Cavern Station Yass.<\/span><\/p>\n

For over 20 years all sale rams have been Vet Checked including Scrotal circumference.<\/span><\/p>\n

I recommend to all sheep breeders the traits that are listed as FINE TUNING<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
